Introduction to relief printmaking using the Linocut technique.

Come and learn the basic principles of linocut printmaking in the friendly environment of Open Arts Studio.

In this 6 hour  workshop, you will be working on one 10cm square design with the aim of producing  prints and custom Christmas cards that you are proud of and can use. 

 I will guide you through all the steps from planning, transferring, carving and proofing, to printing your design on quality art printing paper and fabric. We'll explore different ways of mark making on lino, as well as various printing techniques and ink effects.

Photos and illustrations are provided for your inspiration, or you can work from your own sketches or photos.  You will be working with traditional art linoleum, professional carving tools and pinks, handprinting tools.

This workshop is designed to teach you the basic techniques for linocut printing, with time for experimentation and asking questions. We wYou will leave with more skills and an insight into the process of linocut as an easy art form that can be done at home with very little space or special materials required. You will take home all the prints and blocks you make during the workshop. 

No printmaking experience required. Everyone from 10 years old and up and artistic abilities are welcome.

What this course includes: 

  • friendly tuition in a small- group environment

  • all materials needed to make a print that you are proud of

  • tea, fresh coffee and biscuits throughout the workshop

  • an information sheet on good basic linocut equipment and suppliers

What to bring

  • Please wear old clothes that you don't mind getting inky (or an old apron).

  • You may wish to bring a packed lunch - fridge / microwave / cutlery can be provided. 

  • You are very welcome to bring your own designs / sketches / photos - simple black & white images work best.
